The University of Berne offers an Associate Professorship for History and
Cultures of Latin America in the Department of History starting 1 February
2012 (latest start date: 1 August 2012).
The Professorship is affiliated with the Center for Global Studies at the
Faculty of Humanities. Applicants are expected to have wide-ranging
perspectives on Latin American History from the beginning of the Early
Modern era, in both teaching and research. Candidates should have research
expertise that facilitates co-operation within the department and with the
Center for Global Studies, as well as with other disciplines in the
humanities. Previous experience in negotiating external funding as well as
the willingness to actively participate in establishing doctoral programmes
(third stage of Bologna reform) would be an asset. Applicants are expected
to supervise students, and show committed participation in the directorate
of the department and the board of the Center for Global Studies, as well
as in faculty work and university duties.
Academic requirements for this position are a Habilitation or equivalent
academic qualification.
